Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences growing in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
