'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear amid the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from outside the box, and his teammate immediately slammed home the loose ball before sprinting toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some collateral damage. He shared, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that far out," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after the team changed shape. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they are adept at manage and neutralize a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and focus just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in south Wales. At Orient he linked up again with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Development Path

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without serious challenge. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that growth for club and country, excelling for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away games against the German national team. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This represents an incredible journey for the kid from the Queens Park estate in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the venue ceiling was sealed owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a small coach driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
